Khojaly: Archaeologists have uncovered a significant burial site adjacent to the Khojaly mausoleum, alongside a Bronze Age kurgan and an extensive necropolis, APA reports. This discovery was reported by the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences as part of their 2025 findings.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Shamil Najafov’s research within the Khojaly historical and archaeological complex led to the discovery of this burial site, located at a depth of 70 cm with no visible surface features. Additionally, a kurgan from the Bronze Age was identified in the necropolis, providing further insight into the area’s historical significance.

The findings also include grave monuments of various structures linked to the Khojaly-Gadabay culture. A complete necropolis, noted for reburials, was also discovered. Najaf Museyibli, leading the ‘Shamkir’ archaeological expedition, reported that similar burial types have been observed in some Khojaly-Gadabay necropolises in the Ganja-Gazakh region. However, the Baydar necropolis revealed a complete burial ground showcasing this burial practice for the first time.
