Armenia Yet to Respond on Missing Persons Despite Pledge to Review List

Baku: The first meeting between representatives of the State Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan and representatives of the Interagency Commission on Prisoners of War, Detainees and Missing Persons of the Republic of Armenia was held on February 7, 2025. Jeyhun Rzayev, an employee of the Working Group of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, disclosed this information at an international conference titled "Modern Approaches and Strengthening Cooperation in Resolving the Issue of Missing Persons," organized in collaboration with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, during the talks, the Azerbaijani side expressed its willingness to exchange information to assist in determining the fate of missing persons. The Azerbaijani delegation provided relevant information regarding Azerbaijani citizens who disappeared during the First Karabakh War to their Armenian counterparts. To further aid in clarifying the fate of missing persons of Armenian origin, Azerbaijan proposed that DNA profiles collected from family members of the missing be shared with Azerbaijan. The dialogue between the two parties continued online and over the phone following the initial meeting.

The Azerbaijani side also submitted detailed lists and information on individuals who went missing during the First Karabakh War. Although the Armenian side initially committed to reviewing the submitted documents and providing pertinent information back to Azerbaijan, no updates have been received to date, as noted by Rzayev.
