Baku: Azerbaijan is set to return the remains of six identified martyrs to their families, marking a significant step in the ongoing efforts to address the consequences of the First Karabakh War. A total of bone remains belonging to 934 individuals related to the conflict have so far been received by the Ministry of Health's Forensic Medical Examination and Pathological Anatomy Union, as revealed by Adalat Hasanov, Director of the Union. Hasanov made these remarks at an international conference titled "Modern Approaches and Strengthening Cooperation in Resolving the Issue of Missing Persons," which was held in collaboration with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hasanov stated that the remains of 206 individuals were exhumed from unidentified martyrs' graves, while the remains of 79 individuals were exhumed from the graves of martyrs who had been buried without identification to verify the grave names. To date, the remains of 327 individuals have been identified. Of these, the remains of 226 martyrs have been handed over to their families with the decision and participation of the State Commission. The remains of six more martyrs are scheduled to be handed over to their families on July 1 and July 3.
Hasanov highlighted the collaborative efforts involved in this process, stating that the staff have engaged in numerous meetings with international organizations and have pursued scientific and practical cooperation with experienced forensic medicine experts globally. Additionally, they have participated in various courses and training programs to enhance their capabilities in handling such sensitive cases.
