Assistant to Azerbaijani President Highlights Persistent Threat of Landmines

Baku: “Landmines are not just remnants of the past – they are an ongoing danger to both humans and animals,” Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs, wrote on X platform, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, in the mountains of Kalbajar, a dog recently became a victim of an anti-personnel landmine planted by Armenia during the period of occupation. A swift response by an Azerbaijani military medical team ensured that the dog received immediate medical assistance, and her life is no longer in danger.

Since 2020, over 400 Azerbaijani civilians and military personnel have fallen victim to landmines left by Armenia. These landmines, which remain buried underground for years, can cause soil erosion and destroy native vegetation, Hajiyev noted.
