Azerbaijan Airlines to Equip Fleet with High-Speed In-Flight Wi-Fi

Baku: Passengers of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) will soon have access to high-speed, streaming-capable in-flight Wi-Fi, thanks to a newly signed strategic partnership with Viasat Inc., a global leader in satellite communications. The Press Service of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC confirmed the development to APA-Economics.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the agreement was signed by Samir Rzayev, President of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC, and Don Buchman, President, Aviation at Viasat Inc., during the Dubai Airshow 2025. This event is one of the world’s largest international aviation exhibitions, emphasizing AZAL’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies for enhanced passenger services.

The partnership will see the integration of the Viasat Amara system into twenty new aircraft, including the Airbus A320 family and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. This next-generation in-flight connectivity solution promises a high-quality internet experience, facilitated by advanced satellite network design and cutting-edge hardware.

Beyond high-speed Wi-Fi, the agreement introduces a wireless in-flight entertainment platform, allowing passengers to access a diverse library of content on their personal devices. The airline has already installed this system on the first two Airbus A320neo aircraft delivered this year.

Samir Rzayev expressed that the collaboration marks a significant advancement in onboard service, highlighting the project’s international importance and the airline’s dedication to innovation. The introduction of high-speed Wi-Fi aims to enhance passenger comfort and connectivity.

Don Buchman remarked on the partnership’s significance, stating that AZAL’s adoption of Viasat Amara will deliver a premium digital experience and reflects a shared commitment to elevating the passenger journey.

AZAL will offer complimentary onboard Wi-Fi access to business-class passengers and top-tier loyalty members. This initiative is expected to boost the airline’s competitive edge and improve service levels across its international network.

Holding a 4-Star Skytrax rating and recognized as the Best Regional Airline in Central Asia and the CIS, AZAL continues to expand its network and drive digital innovation. The airline’s modern fleet aligns with ICAO standards, reinforcing Azerbaijan’s position in the global aviation market.

Sustainability remains integral to AZAL’s strategy. As a UN Global Compact signatory, the airline actively participates in IATA’s CO2 Connect and IEnvA programs, underscoring its commitment to responsible aviation practices.
