Baku: Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, recently engaged in discussions with a delegation of deputy speakers from African parliaments. The African officials are in Baku to partake in the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the African parliamentarians expressed their appreciation for Azerbaijan's organization of the conference. They also emphasized the significant insights gained from the message delivered by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the conference attendees.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova shared with the deputy speakers information about Azerbaijan's climate of multiculturalism and tolerance. She highlighted the successful outcomes of the nation's state policies aimed at preserving and promoting Islamic values.
The meeting also covered the current status and potential growth of cooperation among the parliaments of the OIC member states. The discussions underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between the Milli Majlis and the parliaments of African nations within international parliamentary organizations, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN), and the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC).
