Baku: The 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States concluded in Baku on June 25. The session was chaired by Rafael Huseynov, Deputy Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, where reports from the OIC Parliamentary Union Committees were heard and adopted, along with the review of other issues on the agenda.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting also witnessed the adoption of the Baku Declaration, read out by Azerbaijani MP Jeyhun Mammadov. The declaration reaffirmed the commitment to the objectives outlined in the OIC Parliamentary Union Charter, and emphasized the need to adhere to the goals and principles of the Charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Charter of the United Nations, and international law.
The declaration expressed concern over the complex challenges and evolving threats faced by states, such as cyberattacks, terrorism, and the rise of Islamophobia. It highlighted the negative impact of these threats on international peace, security, and the social solidarity among Muslim communities globally.
In his address, Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the hospitality extended to conference participants.
Deputy Speaker Rafael Huseynov concluded the session by noting that the discussions and decisions made during the conference would enhance cooperation among the OIC member states.
