Azerbaijan and Ethiopia Strengthen Ties Through Parliamentary Diplomacy

Baku: As part of her official visit to Ethiopia, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, met with Agegnehu Teshager, Speaker of the House of Federation. Agegnehu Teshager expressed his country's interest in fostering relations with Azerbaijan across trade, investment, and tourism sectors. He also praised the initialing of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, describing this achievement as a great success for Azerbaijan, adding that Ethiopia is closely following friendly Azerbaijan's development.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Teshager emphasized that Azerbaijan's 'ASAN Khidmet' concept has been successfully applied across Ethiopia, boosting efficiency in providing public services in the country. Teshager also commended Azerbaijan's excellent organization of the COP29 Conference, noting that Ethiopia would welcome the COP32 in 2027 and is willing to benefit from Azerbaijan's COP experience.

Meanwhile, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova underscored the remarkable successes achieved by Ethiopia over recent years, emphasizing that both countries enjoy excellent relations and the existing potential for enhancing these ties. The meeting also reviewed bilateral interparliamentary cooperation. The officials noted that the interparliamentary friendship groups and reciprocal visits contribute to boosting collaboration between legislative bodies of both countries.

The Ethiopian House of Federation Speaker hailed Azerbaijan's efforts toward advancing parliamentary diplomacy, as well as the country's active involvement in international interparliamentary platforms. In turn, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation within these platforms. The meeting also addressed other issues of shared interest.
