Doha: On January 26, 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Yalchin Rafiyev, paid a visit to the State of Qatar, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to APA. The visit marked the 5th meeting of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Qatar.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the consultations were led by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev from Azerbaijan and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi from Qatar. Discussions covered bilateral political and economic issues, cooperation with international organizations like the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement, and other regional and global topics of common interest. The talks also explored collaboration in trade, investment, agriculture, tourism, and education.
Deputy Minister Rafiyev met with Ahmad Al-Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs of Qatar. They emphasized the importance of convening the next Intergovernmental Joint Commission meeting between Azerbaijan and Qatar soon and organizing mutual trade missions and business forums.
During his stay in Doha, Rafiyev visited the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies, where he met with Director Ghassan Elkahlout and other experts. They exchanged views on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy and regional events in the South Caucasus and Middle East.
Rafiyev also interacted with the leadership, faculty, and students at Georgetown University’s Center for International and Regional Studies in Qatar. He discussed Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities, regional and global issues, and the post-conflict Armenia-Azerbaijan period, including normalization efforts and reconstruction in liberated Azerbaijani territories, answering participants’ questions.
