Baku: The 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan was held in Baku today. The meeting, attended by high-level officials from both nations, was aimed at bolstering bilateral ties in various sectors.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting was co-chaired by Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov and Tajikistan's Deputy Prime Minister Usmonali Usmonzoda. Discussions centered on the growth in trade turnover and transit transportation, with an emphasis on exploring expanded cooperation in multiple domains, including industry, investment, agriculture, energy, transport and logistics, tourism, education, and humanitarian fields.

Tajik companies were invited to explore opportunities in Azerbaijan's industrial parks and the Alat Free Economic Zone. The potential for Tajikistan to participate in Middle Corridor projects was highlighted as a means to enhance regional cooperation.

The meeting concluded with the signing of several key documents. These included a memorandum on establishing a Business Council between AZPROMO and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan, an agreement on educational quotas, and the protocol of the Joint Commission. It was also announced that the Azerbaijan-Tajikistan business forum scheduled for May 22 in Baku will offer a platform for discussing new areas of cooperation.
