Baku: Azerbaijan and Trkiye are set to elevate their longstanding cooperation in the oil and gas sectors to include significant electricity and interconnection projects, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov announced during his speech at the conclusion of the 5th Azerbaijan-Trkiye Energy Forum.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Shahbazov highlighted the growing demand for electricity driven by advancements in digitalization and artificial intelligence. This necessitates not only the generation of electricity but also the establishment of new electricity interconnections between the two nations.

Shahbazov pointed out specific projects under discussion, such as the Nakhchivan-Trkiye and Azerbaijan-Georgia-Trkiye-Bulgaria electricity interconnection projects, as well as initiatives across the Black Sea. These projects aim to facilitate the transmission of electricity, including renewable energy, over long distances and to key markets.

Furthermore, Shahbazov mentioned ongoing collaborations with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, emphasizing a unified strategy within the Azerbaijan-Trkiye Energy Forum framework. These developments underscore the expanding scope of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Trkiye beyond traditional oil and gas sectors.
