Baku: Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov engaged in discussions with Charles Cormier, Infrastructure Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, and Rolande Pryce, Regional Director for the South Caucasus at the World Bank, to explore cooperation opportunities on the "Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor" project, as reported by APA-Economics.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, during the meeting, the parties exchanged views on current energy projects in Azerbaijan and potential new collaborations, focusing on renewable energy, energy efficiency, modernizing the energy network, and energy storage systems. The ongoing AZURE project, a joint initiative with the World Bank, was emphasized for its role in sustainably integrating renewable energy into the national power grid. The discussion highlighted the need to modernize and digitize electricity transmission and distribution networks to accommodate growing demand from data centers, artificial intelligence, and electric vehicles.
The meeting also covered the interconnection between the 'Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor' and the 'Georgia-Romania Black Sea Submarine Cable' projects. These initiatives are expected to enhance Europe's energy security and foster regional integration. Moreover, discussions included expanding Azerbaijan's role as a regional energy supplier, particularly in electricity and gas exports.
Energy efficiency was another key topic, with discussions on the potential to reduce energy consumption in public buildings, the activities of the Energy Efficiency Fund, and the application of international expertise. The continuation of technical assistance and knowledge exchange in this area was deemed beneficial.
