Azerbaijan Asserts Rights Over Song Misappropriated by Armenian Artist

BAKU—The Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan has intervened to stop the misappropriation of the Azerbaijani song “Yarimgila” by Armenian singer Minas Hovhannesyan, known as Mino.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the song, originally composed by Azerbaijani honored artist Javanshir Guliyev, features traditional bayatis and was altered and performed under a different title by Hovhannesyan. The issue gained attention after the altered version titled “Krovel e im yare” appeared on YouTube, prompting actions to protect the original Azerbaijani cultural heritage represented in Guliyev’s work.
