Azerbaijan Changes Legal Age for Acquiring Firearms

Baku: Citizens who have reached the age of 21 in Azerbaijan will now have the right to acquire civilian firearms. This development comes as part of an amendment to the law “On Service and Civilian Weapons,” which was recently approved by President Ilham Aliyev.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the previous legislation allowed citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who were eighteen or older to acquire civilian weapons under the requirements of the law. However, the new amendment specifies that while citizens aged eighteen can still acquire civilian weapons, they are restricted from obtaining firearms until they reach the age of twenty-one.

The amendment marks a significant change in the country’s firearms acquisition regulations, modifying the legal framework to distinguish between general civilian weapons and firearms, with the latter now subject to stricter age requirements.
