Baku: Clarification has been made regarding the investigation being conducted in Azerbaijan related to the events in Yekaterinburg, APA reports. Ilgar Safarov, the Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor General on special assignments, stated that the Azerbaijani side does not intend to interfere in the internal affairs of any state or institution: “However, if during the process cruelty is shown towards one or more Azerbaijani citizens, and their rights are massively violated, it is one of the duties of the Azerbaijani state to respond to this incident.”
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, it was noted that this is also reflected in the Azerbaijani Criminal Procedure Code. Safarov emphasized that one reason for their sensitive approach to this issue is the lack of an official position from the Russian law enforcement agencies. He clarified that the Azerbaijani authorities do not intend to accuse anyone, nor do they have expert opinions confirming the occurrence of the incident, especially the death. Safarov mentioned that there are reports in the Russian media linking the death to various illnesses, but underscored that autopsies have been ordered for the bodies brought to Azerbaijan. He expressed that attributing the cause of death to illness is not very reasonable and highlighted that forensic expertise is well-developed in Russia. Safarov concluded by expressing confidence that statements from Russian law enforcement agencies will differ, providing more substantiated opinions for review.
