Baku: Azerbaijan has detained two individuals attempting to smuggle a large quantity of drugs from Iran using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). This operation is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the reliable protection of the state border and combat the smuggling and illegal circulation of narcotics, as reported by APA citing the State Border Service.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, on March 21, the “Lankaran” border detachment of the State Border Service Border Troops Command detected the sound of a UAV near the border line. Subsequently, two unidentified individuals were observed approaching the area by car. The border outpost immediately enacted the “To Arms” command to secure the area. Through efficient search and operational measures, the vehicle was intercepted, and two suspects, Ilqar Nuhbala Qurbanov, born in 2000, and Nemat Mollaga Maharramov, born in 1985, both residents of the Saray settlement in the Absheron district, were detained.
During the vehicle inspection, authorities discovered an
d seized 6 kilograms and 354 grams of marijuana. Preliminary questioning revealed that the detainees intended to collect the drugs delivered by the UAV from Iranian territory. The State Border Service continues to conduct operational and investigative measures concerning the incident.
