Azerbaijan Enters Day of Silence Before Parliamentary Election

LONDON — Azerbaijan has commenced a mandatory day of silence as the campaign period for the upcoming extraordinary parliamentary election concludes.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the election campaign, which began on August 9, 2024, ended 24 hours before the voting starts on September 1, as per the Calendar Plan of the Main Actions and Events. The silence period is a standard procedure to ensure a quiet reflection time for voters ahead of casting their ballots. This follows a decree by President Ilham Aliyev dissolving the previous parliament and calling for new elections.
