BAKU: The Azerbaijan-EU Green Energy Corridor project is poised to enter its active implementation phase in 2025, as announced by Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov. The announcement was made during the “Strengthening Energy Security Through Innovative Technologies” forum in China, part of the Belt and Road countries’ energy ministers’ meeting.

According to Trend News Agency, Minister Shahbazov disclosed that the preliminary feasibility study report for the Caspian-Black Sea-European Green Energy Corridor will be presented at the upcoming COP29 conference. Following this, the project will transition to its active phase. Additionally, a feasibility study is underway for the Azerbaijan-Trkiye-Europe green energy corridor, a separate 1 GW project developed under the Green Energy Zone Concept.

Minister Shahbazov also mentioned that an Intergovernmental Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the Development and Transfer of Green Energy is expected to be signed between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekis
tan during COP29. This strategic partnership aims to enhance collaboration in green energy development and transmission across the region.

In a related development, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary had previously signed a strategic partnership agreement on December 17, 2022. This agreement outlines the construction of a 1,000 MW submarine energy cable under the Black Sea, covering a distance of 1,195 kilometers. This cable is designed to transmit green electricity generated in Azerbaijan and Georgia to Romania, with subsequent distribution to Hungary and other parts of Europe, thereby improving Europe’s access to renewable energy from the Caucasus region.
