Baku: A Georgian citizen wanted internationally has been handed over to his country by Azerbaijan, the Prosecutor General’s Office told APA. The extradition marks a significant development in the ongoing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in combating cross-border crime.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Irakli Berdzenadze, born on August 14, 1987, had been sought internationally since 2019 for charges related to embezzlement and illegal entrepreneurship. The Tbilisi City Court sentenced him in absentia on October 25, 2023. His extradition was requested by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia and was approved by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Berdzenadze was located and arrested in Azerbaijan in February 2025. His extradition was facilitated under the Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family, and Criminal Matters, dated January 22, 1993. He was handed over to the authorized Georgian authorities under the escort of the special convoy of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice.
