Baku: A significant drug smuggling operation was thwarted, preventing over 53 kilograms of narcotics from entering Azerbaijan, as reported by the Press Center of the State Border Service. Measures aimed at the reliable protection of the state border and the fight against the illegal trafficking of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and their precursors are being effectively maintained.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the State Border Service, specifically the “Lankaran” border detachment of the Border Troops Command, successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt involving 53 kilograms and 250 grams of narcotics and 1,450 methadone M-40 pills from Iran into Azerbaijan. The operation led to the detention of an Azerbaijani citizen, Amil Vidadi oglu Sadigov, born in 1991, who was found with 9 kilograms and 760 grams of marijuana and 450 methadone M-40 pills. These substances had been dropped near the border by an aerial vehicle.

During the initial interrogation, Sadigov admitted his intention to retrieve the drugs from the area. Further operational and military efforts in the region resulted in the seizure of 20 kilograms and 240 grams of drugs, including marijuana and methamphetamine, on December 7. Additionally, on December 9, authorities seized 23 kilograms and 250 grams of marijuana and 1,000 methadone M-40 pills.

Investigations and operational measures continue to address these incidents, aiming to curb the illegal drug trade across the Azerbaijan-Iran border.
