Baku: The latest court hearing regarding the special indictment against Isfandiyar Akhundov, known as Sharurlu Isfandiyar, the owner of ‘Sharur MTK,’ unfolded at the Binagadi District Court, where Judge Vusal Taghiyev presided over the proceedings.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Nazakat Gaziyeva, a specialist from the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, provided her expert opinion in written form to the court. The expert declared that while the language used in a video under scrutiny was sharply negative, it should be seen as criticism rather than an insult, noting that the expressions are part of the common vocabulary and do not constitute an insult.

Emil Samandarov’s lawyer, Asim Abbasov, contested this opinion, pointing out contradictions between the current and previous opinions and alleging bias. He highlighted a possible “Bermuda triangle” connection between the President of ANAS, the director of the Institute of Linguistics, and the accused, during the period when Ramiz Mehdiyev was President of ANAS. Abbasov requested the removal of the opinion from the evidence list and time to submit a written objection.

On the other hand, Ulvi Nasibli, the lawyer for the accused, Isfandiyar Akhundov, objected to the delay tactics, aligning with Akhundov’s sentiment about the extended proceedings. Judge Taghiyev acknowledged the right to object and granted time to the plaintiff to submit their written objection.

The proceedings are scheduled to continue on December 15. It is notable that during the period referenced, Ramiz Mehdiyev, who is currently under house arrest for charges including treason and attempts to seize state power, was the President of ANAS. Meanwhile, the indictment against Akhundov involves accusations of defamation and insult towards Emil Samandarov, head of ‘Progress 2016’ MTK, suggesting he portrayed Samandarov as a fraud in an interview.
