Baku: Azerbaijan has introduced a new allowance and set of privileges for diplomats who are called up for military service. This development is part of an amendment to the Law on Diplomatic Service, which was officially approved by President Ilham Aliyev through a recent decree.
According to Azeri-Press News agency, the amendment is encapsulated in the newly added Articles 13.14-1 and 13.14-2. The law now stipulates that a diplomatic service employee, whose service is terminated for being called up for compulsory or alternative military service, will receive an allowance. This allowance will be equivalent to three times their average monthly state salary.
Furthermore, the law ensures that, except in cases where the diplomatic service body is dissolved, diplomats who had been serving in a diplomatic position before being called up for compulsory military service are eligible to return. They can be reappointed to their previous or an equivalent position within the diplomatic body, provided they apply to resume their role no later than 60 calendar days after their discharge from military service.
