Azerbaijan Maintains Economic Stability Amid Global Risks

Baku:Prime Minister Ali Asadov reported that the country has maintained macroeconomic and financial stability throughout the year, despite facing global economic challenges. He shared this information during a meeting at the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Prime Minister Asadov highlighted that economic growth has been achieved even though the oil and gas sector experienced a downturn in output and growth rates. From January to August 2026, Azerbaijan's real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose by 1.2 percent, thanks to a 2.1 percent increase in the non-oil and gas sector. Conversely, the oil and gas GDP saw a decline of 0.8 percent. Additionally, capital investments in fixed assets increased by 10 percent during this period.

As of September 1, Azerbaijan's strategic foreign currency reserves were approximately $91 billion, nearly 20 times greater than the country's external public debt. The direct external public debt amounted to $4.5 billion, which is 5.6 percent of the projected GDP. Furthermore, in the first eight months of 2026, Azerbaijan achieved a foreign trade balance surplus exceeding $10 billion.
