Azerbaijan Participates in SCO Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Bishkek

Bishkek: Azerbaijan was represented by Deputy Energy Minister Kamal Abbasov at the 6th Meeting of Energy Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), held in the Kyrgyz Republic, APA-Economic reports. During the meeting, key topics such as energy security, sustainability, the implementation of clean energy technologies, and the strengthening of international cooperation were discussed amidst the changes occurring in the global energy system.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Azerbaijan emphasized its commitment to developing relations with the SCO as a Dialogue Partner and highlighted its role in strengthening regional energy connectivity. As a reliable energy partner and an important transit hub, Azerbaijan is focusing on creating 8 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. The country is also working on implementing various green energy corridors and interconnector projects.

The strategic importance of the 'Central Asia-Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor' project was underscored during the meeting. Support was expressed for the Kyrgyz Republic's accession to this initiative, which aims to strengthen energy connectivity between Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Trkiye, and China. This project will also facilitate electricity transmission along the Middle Corridor connecting Europe and Asia.

Azerbaijan reiterated its readiness to continue contributing to constructive dialogue and the development of mutually beneficial cooperation within the SCO platform.
