Baku: Azerbaijan has announced plans to expand its metro network to include lines reaching Yeni Gunashli, Zabrat, Masazir, and Saray. These expansions are part of a broader strategy to enhance the transport infrastructure in and around Baku. Rahman Hummatov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport, shared this information during a roundtable focused on the implementation of the '2025-2030 State Program for improving transport infrastructure in Baku and its surrounding areas.'

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hummatov emphasized that while new metro lines are being considered for Khirdalan and Masazir, the current plans do not include new stations in the Zabrat area. The decision-making process for determining the locations of new stations is primarily based on the potential impact each station can have. The goal is to alleviate congestion in the city center by providing more options for entering and exiting the area.

Metro lines to areas such as Yeni Gunashli, Zabrat, Masazir, and Saray are intended to reduce the burden on central stations like "28 May" and "Sahil," which currently handle the bulk of passenger traffic. The strategy includes building transfer stations to diversify the network and provide alternatives to the heavily used central stations. By 2030, new transfer stations are planned for 'Nizami', 'Sahil', and 'Khatai' stations, potentially easing the load on central hubs. The expansion to suburban areas will be considered in future stages of the development plan.
