Azerbaijan President Criticizes Biden Administration Over Reimposed Sanctions

Baku: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan criticized the Biden administration for reimposing sanctions on Azerbaijan following the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. In an interview with Al Arabiya TV channel, Aliyev shared his views on the geopolitical implications of the U.S. actions, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted that Section 907, which had been lifted in 2001 due to Azerbaijan's strategic support to the U.S. in Afghanistan, was reimposed shortly after President Biden's decision to withdraw American forces. Aliyev expressed his disappointment and questioned the rationale behind the reimposition of sanctions, emphasizing the significant logistical and transportation support that Azerbaijan provided during the Afghanistan mission.

Aliyev further elaborated on the strained relations between Azerbaijan and the Biden administration, describing them as a "disaster" and stating that all relations were effectively cut off. He contrasted this with his perspective on former President Trump, whom he described as a leader capable of restoring America's global image and influence, despite facing strong systemic resistance. Aliyev praised Trump for his leadership qualities, particularly highlighting his reaction to an assassination attempt as evidence of his bravery and leadership capabilities.
