Baku: Azerbaijan's State Border Service (SBS) has successfully thwarted a significant drug smuggling operation from Iran, detaining three individuals in the process.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the operation prevented the entry of over 55 kilograms of narcotics and 1,000 Methadone M-40 tablets, which contain psychotropic substances, into Azerbaijan. The smuggling attempt was intercepted in the service area of the 'Horadiz' border detachment, managed by the Border Troops of the SBS.
On August 21, a person was apprehended while trying to smuggle 26 kilograms 5 grams of narcotics and the Methadone M-40 tablets into the country. The following day, three Azerbaijani nationals were detained in connection with an attempt to smuggle 29 kilograms 100 grams of narcotics.
The SBS has stated that operational and investigative measures are currently ongoing in relation to the incidents.
