Baku: The procedure for restricting the departure of foreign trade participants with customs debts from Azerbaijan is being determined, APA reports. This significant development was discussed in a session of the Milli Majlis, where a proposed amendment to the Customs Code was reviewed. The amendment suggests granting customs authorities the right to apply to a court for temporarily restricting a foreign trade participant's right to leave the country. This measure aims to ensure that calculated customs payments, penalties, and interest on customs debt are settled if the participant fails to fulfill the payment obligations within the established period.
According to Azeri-Press News agency, the draft law includes provisions for customs authorities to immediately lift the restrictions once it is confirmed that the reasons for the temporary restriction have been resolved. The enforcement of this restriction will be carried out by a court following an application from the customs authority. This proposal aligns with similar powers already defined for tax authorities in the nation's Tax Code. After thorough discussions, the draft law was put to a vote and successfully adopted in the third reading.
