Baku: Azerbaijan Railways has announced that there are currently no plans to implement passenger transportation on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line. Rovshan Rustamov, the Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), discussed the initial design intentions of the railway, which included provisions for passenger services, during a briefing with journalists, as reported by APA's local bureau.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the BTK railway, which connects Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, was originally constructed with the potential for passenger transit. However, the focus remains on freight traffic, and the railway will continue to serve as a vital freight route. The railway's modernization has recently been completed, and an event celebrating its reopening is set to take place at the Akhalkalaki railway and logistics complex in Georgia.
