Baku: More than 500,000 tons of grain have been transported from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan via railways through the territory of the Russian Federation.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, citing Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), this significant volume of grain transport highlights the robust rail connections between the nations.

In the first half of this year, KTZ reported transporting 6.6 million tons of grain, marking a 53% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Export shipments showed a notable rise of 62%, reaching 5.1 million tons. During January to June of this year, Kazakhstan dispatched 2.6 million tons of grain by railway to Central Asian countries-an increase of 31% over last year. Notably, shipments to Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan doubled, reaching 158,000 and 29,000 tons, respectively. Uzbekistan received over 1.8 million tons, a 23% increase, with Tajikistan receiving 623,000 tons (+35%) and Afghanistan 117,000 tons (+35%).

The report further highlights that KTZ experienced substantial growth in shipments via ports and transit routes. Shipments to Iran through Aktau and Kuryk increased 12 times, those through Russia surged 4.7 times, and to the Baltic countries 13 times. The volume through Black Sea ports rose by 45%, and through Baltic ports by 18%.

“Transit to Azerbaijan via the Russian Federation has exceeded 500,000 tons,” the report emphasizes, showcasing the pivotal role of railway networks in grain distribution. KTZ continues to facilitate the timely delivery of agricultural products from local producers to foreign markets and is actively preparing grain warehouses for the upcoming crop season.
