Moscow: The 'North-South' transport corridor, which connects the Baltic region to South Asia, is proving to be a more efficient alternative to the Suez Canal route, reducing travel time from 35-45 days to just 15-20 days, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev stated at the International Transport and Logistics Forum.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Savelyev revealed that the corridor facilitated the transportation of 21.5 million tons of cargo in 2025. Since 2022, the capacity of checkpoints along the Azerbaijan-Russia border has increased fivefold, significantly enhancing trade efficiency in the region.
Savelyev also mentioned that container transportation to Iran has surged by 60%, with average delivery times dropping considerably from 33 days to 16 days. This development underscores the strategic importance of the 'North-South' transport corridor in regional trade.
