Azerbaijan Sees Sharp Rise in Rail Passenger Transport Revenues

Baku: Azerbaijan’s revenues from passenger transportation by rail have increased significantly in the first half of this year.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, revenues from freight and passenger transportation by rail amounted to 200,447.2 thousand manats, marking an 8.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2024, which recorded 218,248.9 thousand manats.

The data indicates that revenues from freight transportation by rail were 192,618 thousand manats, a decline of 9.7% from January-June of the previous year, which stood at 213,252.1 thousand manats. However, the revenues from passenger transportation saw a notable rise, amounting to 7,829.2 thousand manats, which is a 56.7% increase compared to the corresponding period last year, when it was 4,996.8 thousand manats.

In terms of volume, Azerbaijan transported 8,442.2 thousand tons of cargo and 4,648.4 thousand passengers by rail during January-June 2025. This reflects a 9.4% decrease in cargo transportation and a 20.7% increase in passenger transportation on an annual basis.
