Hanoi:Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, has met with Phan Thi Thang, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, to discuss the burgeoning energy partnership between the two nations.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting underscored the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Vietnam, highlighting the importance of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Vietnam in 2014 and To Lam's visit to Azerbaijan in May 2025. The discussions focused on advancing agreements from the third Azerbaijan-Vietnam Intergovernmental Commission meeting on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technical Cooperation held in Hanoi in 2025.
The energy collaboration between Azerbaijan and Vietnam has seen Azerbaijan supply over 1.1 million tonnes of crude oil to Vietnam since 2023. The talks included plans to continue these supplies, enhance cooperation between SOCAR and PetroVietnam, and explore new opportunities in oil and gas exploration and development, oil refining, petrochemicals, and oilfield services. The sides also discussed potential LNG supplies to Vietnam.
Additionally, the discussion touched on renewable energy cooperation with Vietnam's ROX Group. Potential projects include solar power plants in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and wind power plants near Baku. The talks also focused on expanding trade and economic ties, with seven Vietnamese-invested companies currently operating in Azerbaijan. Further topics included boosting non-oil trade, finalizing the draft Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments, and organizing the next Azerbaijan-Vietnam Business Council meeting.
