Azerbaijan to Establish Electricity Connection with Eastern Europe by 2032

Baku: A meeting was held between the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Parviz Shahbazov, and a delegation led by the former Prime Minister of Belgium, Yves Leterme, the Ministry of Energy told APA-Economics.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting, which included representatives from W-Kracht, a company specializing in onshore wind energy projects in Belgium, focused on exploring cooperation opportunities in the implementation and export of renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan's role in promoting stability and constructive cooperation in the region was emphasized, with its energy policy and development of renewable energy sources attracting international interest.

The discussion highlighted that Azerbaijan is currently implementing 11 power plant projects based on wind and solar energy and conducting a grid study to explore new generation capacities' connection to the electricity network. Plans to establish data centers to boost electricity demand and infrastructure projects for exporting electricity to Europe were also presented. The creation of an electricity interconnection with Eastern Europe is scheduled to begin in 2032, and Azerbaijan is keen to collaborate with European companies involved in energy generation and electricity trade in Eastern European markets.

Both parties agreed to maintain dialogue on potential cooperation in the renewable energy sector.
