Azerbaijan to Impose Fines on Corporal Punishment Against Children

Baku: Parents and teachers who employ physical violence as a disciplinary measure against children in Azerbaijan will face fines of up to 200 manats. This development comes as a new legal proposal was discussed at the Milli Majlis session.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the proposed legislation is encapsulated in the new Article 525-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. It was presented during today's parliamentary session. The draft law specifies that anyone responsible for supervising children, including parents, educational staff, and other related personnel, will be fined 200 manats if found guilty of using corporal punishment. This covers both physical and psychological violence for disciplinary purposes.

The fine will be enforced in instances where the offense does not constitute criminal liability under the Criminal Code. Following a thorough discussion, the draft law successfully passed its first reading through a parliamentary vote.
