Baku: Parents and teachers who use physical violence against children for disciplinary purposes will face fines up to 200 manats, APA reports. This development is part of a proposed new Article 525-1 in the Code of Administrative Offenses, discussed during a joint videoconference meeting of the Milli Majlis Committees on Legal Policy and State Building and on Human Rights.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft legislation specifies that not only parents and guardians but also employees across various sectors, including educational, medical, social service, sports, cultural, leisure, and penitentiary institutions, will be subjected to these fines if found applying corporal punishment to a child. The scope of the punishment includes both physical and psychological violence used for educational or disciplinary purposes.
The proposed penalties are applicable in scenarios where the act of corporal punishment does not result in criminal charges under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code. This initiative aims to protect children's rights and ensure a safe environment free from violence.
