Baku: The Azerbaijani national under-19 football team has announced its squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifying round, set to take place in Malta from November 9 to 19. The team will first hold a training camp in Baku from November 5 to 8.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Azerbaijani U-19 team is placed in Group 13, where they will compete against the Czech Republic, Northern Ireland, and Malta. All group matches are scheduled to be held at the Centenary Stadium in Ta Gali, Malta. The Azerbaijani side will face the Czech Republic on November 12, Northern Ireland on November 15, and host Malta on November 18.
The list of players called up to represent Azerbaijan includes Habib Hushanov from Gabala, Aykhan Abbaszadeh and Muhammadali Mammadov from Turan Tovuz, and Rashad Alishov from Karabakh, among others. The team features players from both domestic clubs and international outfits, such as Tuncay Ahmadov from Marcet in Spain and Hasan Nazarli from Ankaragucu in Turkiye.
The group matches will see referees from Finland, Kazakhstan, and Malta overseeing the games. Chief referee Oliver Reitala from Finland will officiate the opening and closing matches against the Czech Republic and Malta, respectively, while Sayat Karabayev from Kazakhstan will referee the match against Northern Ireland.
