Baku: Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations have evolved into a strategic alliance, advancing beyond bilateral cooperation to form a crucial axis connecting the South Caucasus with Central Asia. According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, political analyst Aydin Taghiyev highlighted in an interview with AZERTAC that this development is supported by political trust, economic integration, and a shared vision within the Turkic world.
Taghiyev emphasized the pivotal role of the personal friendship and mutual trust between President Ilham Aliyev and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in fortifying the ties between the two nations. He noted that the 'Declaration on Deepening Strategic Partnership' and the 'Treaty on Allied Relations' have established an institutional framework for cooperation across various sectors including political, economic, energy, transport, education, and culture. This reflects the deep and strong friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
Energy cooperation stands out as a significant aspect of the bilateral agenda, particularly through joint projects with SOCAR, the development of a green energy corridor, and the expansion of transit routes. These initiatives open new energy pathways for Azerbaijan toward Central Asia. The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) plays a crucial role in this context, as Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan strive to deepen their integration within the platform, enhancing the political and economic strength of the Turkic world.
The political analyst also pointed out the strategic importance of integrating the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway into the Middle Corridor and the Trans-Caspian Transport Route (TRIPP). This strengthens the regional strategic position of the Baku-Tashkent route and enhances its future development prospects.
Taghiyev remarked that Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations have transcended traditional bonds of brotherhood, evolving into a model of alliance based on political trust, economic integration, and regional geopolitical balance. He noted that the signed treaties on allied relations have provided a legal and institutional framework, laying a solid foundation for enduring strategic cooperation. Joint investment companies, industrial production, and energy projects are key practical pillars of economic cooperation, while educational exchanges and cultural initiatives continue to bring the two peoples closer.
At the regional level, the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan partnership, through shared positions within the Organization of Turkic States, contributes to strengthening the Turkic world's political and economic influence. The integration of transport corridors is establishing a new strategic axis connecting the South Caucasus with Central Asia, making these relations a key pillar of a new geopolitical reality both bilaterally and regionally.
