Baku: On July 10, Farhad Abdullayev, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan, met with a Latvian delegation led by Irena Kucina, President of the Constitutional Court of Latvia. Farhad Abdullayev praised the steady development of bilateral friendly relations based on mutual trust and respect. He noted that the official visit of Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics to Azerbaijan in April this year, at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev, made a significant contribution to further strengthening these ties.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Abdullayev emphasized that the fruitful cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, humanitarian, and other fields is also developing steadily in the judicial and legal sphere. In this context, he underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation between the constitutional courts and expanding the exchange of experience in the field of constitutional law. He also briefed his Latvian counterpart on the main areas of activity of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan.

In turn, Irena Kucina described discussions on issues of mutual interest between the constitutional courts as beneficial. The meeting also focused on established judicial practice, current issues related to constitutional review, modern mechanisms for protecting the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution, the organization of judicial activities in the context of digital transformation, the application of artificial intelligence technologies, ensuring the uniformity of judicial practice, and other legal issues of mutual interest.
