Azerbaijani Citizen Detained in UAE, Extradited Over Smuggling Charges

Abu dhabi: An individual placed on the international wanted list has been detained in the United Arab Emirates and extradited to Azerbaijan, APA reports, citing the Ministry of Justice. On February 20, another person put on the international wanted list by the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Azerbaijan was extradited to the country by the Ministry.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Azerbaijani citizen Samadzade Tural Akif oglu, who was accused of attempting to smuggle a particularly large amount of jewelry valued at 1,683,298 manats across the state border of Azerbaijan without declaration, in collusion with several individuals, was located and arrested in the United Arab Emirates. This action falls under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Following a request by the Ministry of Justice, the submission of documents required in accordance with international procedures, and negotiations held, consent was obtained for his extradition to Azerbaijan. This once again confirms Azerbaijan's international standing and the United Arab Emirates as a reliable partner for the country.

Samadzade Tural Akif oglu was brought to Azerbaijan from the UAE by responsible officers of the Main Department for International Cooperation and the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice and was placed in a pre-trial detention facility in accordance with a court decision.

The Ministry of Justice stated that necessary measures in this field are ongoing.
