Azerbaijani Minister Discusses Minimum Wage Increase Measures

Baku: "A decision has been made to increase the minimum wage in all social packages implemented so far. As I noted, over the past period, the minimum wage has increased 3.1 times, from AZN 130 to AZN 400," Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Anar Aliyev said in an interview with APA and ARB24 TV channel.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Minister emphasized that the minimum wage serves as a universal social standard. He stated that the law prohibits full-time workers from receiving salaries below the minimum wage. The ministry conducts almost weekly monitoring to ensure compliance with this standard. The labor and employment subsystem facilitates this process, which is carried out entirely electronically. If individuals are found receiving wages below the minimum wage during monitoring, educational notifications are sent to their employers, and control measures are applied.

The minimum wage standard is applicable to both the public and private sectors. As part of the latest social reform package, about 700 thousand individuals benefited from the minimum wage increase. The public sector follows a single tariff schedule, where an increase at the lowest step influences all subsequent steps. A similar mechanism is in place in the private sector. Overall, the increase in the minimum wage contributes positively to the growth of average monthly incomes in Azerbaijan.
