Baku: Azerbaijani NGOs have issued a statement condemning the campaign launched in Armenia against the visit of representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan to the liberated territories.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the statement by Azerbaijani civil society representatives denounces the reaction from various circles in Armenia to the diplomatic corps' visit to the liberated regions of Garabagh and East Zangezur. The NGOs perceive this reaction as an act of aggression against Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as interference in its internal affairs. They argue that the actions display a blatant attempt of irredentism and are aimed at undermining the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace agenda and disrupting the ongoing normalization process. The statement suggests that the Armenian people are not prepared for peace, highlighting the collapse of the 'Real Armenia' narrative.
The statement criticizes the denial of Azerbaijan's history, culture, and rich heritage. It specifically calls out the Armenian Prime Minister's reference to the Matenadaran institute, which claims Armenian origin for the Ganjasar Monastery. The Azerbaijani NGOs question the institute's authority to determine the origin of a monument located in Azerbaijan's sovereign territory and express frustration with what they describe as fabricated history and hostility from Armenia.
The NGOs also criticize the remnants of the former regime in Armenia for sending letters to diplomatic missions and international organizations, expressing concern over ethnic hatred and the occupation of Garabagh and East Zangezur which lasted for three decades. They emphasize the importance of ending the interference in Azerbaijan's internal affairs, citing historical grievances such as the Khojaly genocide and the destruction of Azerbaijani historical and cultural heritage.
The statement concludes by urging the Armenian government to commit to the peace agenda with Azerbaijan, holding accountable those who propagate irredentist ideas. The Azerbaijani civil society representatives express confidence in the Azerbaijani state's ability to prevent actions targeting the country by Armenia and its supporters.
