Azerbaijani Parliament Rejects European Parliament’s Resolution on Human Rights

Sanaa:The Milli Majlis considers the European Parliament's resolution on human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan, adopted on October 8, 2026, to be a biased political action against Azerbaijan. It categorically rejects the accusations, which it claims are based on false and fabricated information.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the European Parliament's policy towards Azerbaijan has become increasingly confrontational since the Second Garabagh War. The Milli Majlis criticizes the European Parliament for its resolutions and attempts to exert political pressure on Azerbaijan, which it sees as a failure to recognize new geopolitical realities in the South Caucasus.

The Milli Majlis is particularly concerned about the European Parliament's attempts to act as a supranational authority over the sovereign state of Azerbaijan, questioning the objectivity of its approaches. The Azerbaijani Parliament accuses the European Parliament of harboring sentiments that are Azerbaijanophobic, Turcophobic, and Islamophobic, and claims that some members prioritize lobbying group interests over those of European voters.

The Azerbaijani Parliament also highlights issues within the European Parliament itself, pointing to corruption investigations and questioning its political reputation. It argues that the European Parliament should address its own transparency and integrity challenges before making demands of other states.

The resolution, which comes at a time when Azerbaijan and Armenia are advancing their peace agenda, is seen as an obstacle to building mutual trust and normalizing interstate relations. The Milli Majlis urges the European Parliament to respect Azerbaijan's sovereignty and refrain from actions that could deepen distrust.

In response to claims made in the resolution, Azerbaijan maintains its commitment to protecting human rights, ensuring the rule of law, and fostering democratic development. The Milli Majlis also criticizes the European Parliament for remaining silent on issues faced by Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons.

The Azerbaijani Parliament calls on the European Parliament to abandon its confrontational rhetoric and respect Azerbaijan's democratic path, emphasizing that no external force can divert the country from this course.
