Azerbaijani Parliament’s Spring Session to Conclude Early Due to Upcoming Holidays

Baku: The final plenary meeting of the spring session of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis is set to take place on May 26. This decision comes as the parliament aims to conclude its activities before the upcoming public holidays.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the spring session of the Milli Majlis traditionally starts on February 1 and is scheduled to run until May 31, as outlined by the Internal Regulations of the parliament. However, this year the session will conclude earlier due to the coincidence of Eid al-Adha and Independence Day on May 28. The Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers' decision, dated December 2, 2025, designates May 27 and 28 as the celebration days for Eid al-Adha. Independence Day, also on May 28, is already recognized as a non-working day.

Under the Labor Code, if a public holiday such as Eid al-Adha falls on the same day as another non-working holiday, the subsequent working day is treated as a non-working day. Therefore, since both holidays coincide this year, May 29 will also be a non-working day. Additionally, May 30 and 31 fall on a weekend, further extending the non-working period.

As a result, the Azerbaijani parliament has opted to hold its final session of the spring term on May 26, ensuring that parliamentary duties are completed before the extended holiday break.
