Aigle: From November 19 to 21, the European Championship for juniors in taekwondo took place in Aigle, Switzerland, as reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations to APA. The event was notable for the exceptional performance of the Azerbaijani national team, which secured a total of five medals, including two gold, one silver, and two bronze.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Azerbaijani athletes Ilyas Hatamli (48 kg) and Eljan Aliyev (78 kg) emerged victorious, claiming the European champion titles in their respective weight categories. Meanwhile, Vasif Salimov (68 kg) earned a silver medal, and Mehdi Budagli (45 kg) along with Novruz Aliyev (51 kg) each took home a bronze medal.
The Azerbaijani national team, comprised of male athletes, achieved first place in the overall standings, earning them the championship cup. Furthermore, Ilyas Hatamli, who secured the champion title in his division, was also recognized as the ‘Best Athlete of the Competition.’ In addition, international referee Aygul Abdullayeva was honored as the ‘Best Female Referee’ of the event.
