Azerbaijan’s Achievements During APA Chairmanship Highlighted by Speaker Gafarova

Baku:As part of her working visit to Tanzania for the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, addressed a coordination meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Gafarova outlined Azerbaijan's key priorities during its APA chairmanship, which began in February 2024. These priorities included enhancing the Assembly's institutional capacity and its role in fostering inter-parliamentary dialogue across Asia. She mentioned that significant progress had been made, notably through efforts to revitalize the work of the Assembly's Bureau.

During Azerbaijan's tenure, four coordination meetings were convened to facilitate discussions on international issues and to align positions, strengthening the APA's involvement with the broader parliamentary agenda. Gafarova emphasized the necessity of multilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation and the importance of stronger parliamentary participation in global decision-making, as well as inclusive involvement in advancing sustainable development.

The Speaker also highlighted that the experiences gained over the past two years within the APA underscored the significance of cooperation among various regions, cultures, and political perspectives.
