Baku: The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has reported the discovery of 205 landmines and 2,777 unexploded military ordnance (UXOs) in territories recently liberated from occupation. The operations, conducted over the week from October 21 to October 27, 2024, were aimed at ensuring the safe return and rehabilitation of these regions.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, ANAMA identified 162 anti-personnel landmines and 43 anti-tank mines across several districts, including Tartar, Aghdam, Aghdara, Lachin, Fuzuli, Shusha, Khojaly, Kalbajar, Khankandi, Gubadli, Khojavand, Jabrayil, and Zangilan. In addition to these landmines, the agency found 2,777 unexploded military ordnance, highlighting the significant threat still posed by remnants of past conflicts.
The extensive clearance operations have resulted in the demining of 1,157 hectares of land, a crucial step towards the reconstruction and safe habitation of these areas. The findings underscore the ongoing challenges faced in post-confli
ct recovery and the importance of continued demining efforts to safeguard communities.
