NEW YORK – Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, recently held a meeting with Rabab Fatima, the UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States, discussing preparations for the upcoming COP29.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the discussions, which took place on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, centered on Azerbaijan's presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). Minister Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan's commitment to the UN and its active role in various projects, emphasizing the nation’s readiness to address global challenges in economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.
The meeting also touched on the importance of collaborative efforts to protect peace and security and achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Bayramov detailed Azerbaijan’s preparations for COP29, stressing the principle of inclusiveness and support for the efforts of least developed, landlocked, and small island countries in combatting climate change.
UN High Representative Rabab Fatima praised Azerbaijan’s collaborative efforts and expressed confidence that joint initiatives would enhance transport opportunities for landlocked countries and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the context of COP29.
