Baku: The Ministry of Emergency Situations in Azerbaijan has issued an urgent appeal to the population concerning the increased risk of fires in the liberated territories, attributed to the warming weather, as reported by APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Ministry emphasized the ongoing large-scale reconstruction and restoration projects, including infrastructure development and housing, in these regions. With former internally displaced persons returning to their ancestral lands and an influx of visitors on special permits, the risk of fires starting and spreading has become a significant concern. The presence of numerous mines in these areas further complicates firefighting efforts, making caution essential.
Despite extensive awareness campaigns recently undertaken by the Ministry, fires have been reported in open and forested areas within the Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur economic regions. These incidents have been contained due to the efforts of dedicated firefighters, preventing more severe outcomes.
The Ministry urges all individuals residing in or visiting the liberated territories to adhere strictly to fire safety protocols, particularly during the hot and dry summer months, to preserve the natural environment. The statement calls for the implementation of fire prevention measures in enterprises and organizations, regular cleaning of dry grass and waste from residential and industrial areas, and responsible disposal of cigarettes and matches. It also highlights the importance of maintaining agricultural machinery and avoiding the use of defective equipment in fields.
The public is reminded to avoid lighting bonfires in windy conditions and forest areas, and to ensure that any fires are completely extinguished before leaving. The Ministry underscores that neglecting fire safety rules poses a threat to lives and urges immediate reporting of any dangers to emergency services by calling 112.
