Azerbaijan’s Path from War to Reconstruction and Peace

Shusha:On Remembrance Day, Muhammad Ali Pasha, Chairman of The Gulf Observer Research Forum, highlighted the significance of September 27 for Azerbaijan. This date marks the beginning of the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020 and is now observed as a day of remembrance for those who sacrificed for the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, The Patriotic War commenced on September 27, 2020, as a necessary response to Armenian military attacks. Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan launched counter-offensive operations, ultimately liberating territories held for nearly three decades. This victory was built on years of strategic preparation, combining diplomacy and military readiness.

The war inflicted suffering on civilians, with missile and artillery strikes affecting cities like Aghdam and Ganja, resulting in civilian casualties and property damage. Despite these hardships, national unity prevailed under President Aliyev's leadership.

The liberation of Shusha on November 8, 2020, was a pivotal moment, restoring a culturally significant city to Azerbaijan. The subsequent trilateral statement with Armenia and Russia on November 10 ended hostilities, underlining President Aliyev's effective strategy of military and diplomatic efforts.

Remembrance Day honors the 2,908 Azerbaijani servicemen who were martyred, with the nation and its allies sharing the grief and pride of their families. Reconstruction efforts, led by President Aliyev, aim to restore liberated areas, allowing displaced residents to return home through the "Great Return" program.

The peace process with Armenia continues as Azerbaijan seeks lasting stability in the South Caucasus. Recent agreements, including the initialing of peace relations and a joint declaration in Washington, reflect a commitment to regional peace.

September 27 serves not only as a day of remembrance but also as a testament to Azerbaijan's resilience and dedication to a peaceful future under President Aliyev's leadership.
